How I Told Him We Were Pregnant

I was just browsing through some old images and found one that I sent to my husband when I found out there was a bun in the oven.  When I first found out we were pregnant I wasn’t sure how to tell him but I knew that I wanted to tell him in a special way.  Seeing as his life revolves around web technology and he is part of the Apple clan, I figured my best bet would be to let him know in a creative techy way.  I thought of the saying “the apple does not fall far from the tree” and saw it as a perfect pun to relate both baby and Apple.  At the time, and since he’s known me, I’ve been an avid coffee drinker and probably guzzled at least 16 or more ounces a day.  I sent him an email before he usually leaves work for the day asking him to pick up some decaf and attached the image to the email.  I was so anxious to tell him and had been thinking of how to tell him all day that when he left work I was just waiting for the phone call.  Needless to say, he arrived at home and I was even more anxious wondering if he had read it and got the message or not.  He did his usual routine: set up his MacBook, closed a few open loops on his to-do list, and then asked, “what’s decaf?” and archived the email!  I guess I forgot he was not as knowledgeable about the bean as I.  In disbelief of him not picking up on it, despite the saying, the coffee interjection, and the huge tumor of a baby bump on the tree, I gave up and sat on his lap and made him read it again. And again.  Finally, he understood and with a big smile on his face he said, “Are you serious?”  That’s what I get for playing pranks time after time.  And so began the nine month journey.
